Transgender Student Requirements

  • On January 1, 2014, AB 1266 goes into effect which protects the rights of transgender students. It requires public K-12 schools to permit students to participate in sex segregated school programs, activities, and teams and use facilities consistent with his or her own gender identity, regardless of the student's assigned sex at birth.

    СÀ¶ÊÓƵ Union School District is training administrative staff including support staff. Current governing board policy addresses discrimination against students including transgender ones. Follow this link to see board policy:

    Board Policy 5145.3 - Nondisrimination/Harassment

    The district is working on developing procedures to implement the new law. Professional development will continue to be provided to staff through the Culturally Responsive School Environments (CRSE) training provided by the Anti-Defamation League. The training focuses on sensitivity and acceptance of all differences, including transgender students.
