Amy Smith

I believe that each student is unique and valuable with many strengths to be celebrated. I work hard to teach each child as an individual, meeting their specific needs and encouraging their strengths.

Originating from Northern California, I came to San Diego to attend UCSD where I graduated with a degree in Sociology. I chose to pursue my higher education in the Teacher Education Program at UCSD as well. Go Tritons! In my twenty-two years of teaching, I’ve had the opportunity to teach a range of grade levels, giving me a broad understanding of the depth and scope of academic sequence and natural learning progressions. I enjoy implementing advantageous teaching strategies and empowering students to have authentic learning experiences where inquiry, curiosity, and discovery are foundational.

In my life outside of teaching, I enjoy a wide range of activities with my family, including playing pickleball, hiking, and visiting the Balboa Park museums. We love playing “tourist” in beautiful San Diego County. I love reading and researching, learning new things, spending time with friends, and supporting my two kids’ in their multitude of interests and pursuits.

I love teaching. It’s not just my job, it’s a passion! I truly enjoy spending each day supporting our amazing learners here at Johnson!
